Join Team SHE: In Search of a Global Health Intern

We’re looking to engage with a talented student seeking a Masters in Public Health who is passionate about addressing global socio-economic health problems and wants to apply their international public health skills both at the program and policy level.

The intern’s work would be vital to furthering SHE’s SHE28 campaign in increasing girls’ and women’s access to affordable menstrual pads in emerging markets and open sourcing SHE28’s best practices in Rwanda.

Goal:  The intern’s goal is two-fold:
  1. To research, assess, and design an open source menstrual hygiene management (MHM) needs assessment  framework and tool for both SHE’s education and advocacy;
  2. To assist with the development of SHE, Rwanda’s MHM educational resources and tools  (i.e teaching training manuals, student training manuals, community health worker training manuals) as well as other IEC MHM materials in order to:
    • Assist other global communities in assessing the MHM issues facing their populations and identify appropriate program and policy interventions needed to support MHM;
    • b.) facilitate global exchange of SHE28’s MHM best practices and resources in Rwanda.
Deliverables:  Menstrual Hygiene materials:
  • Design of needs assessment framework and tools for menstrual hygiene management (both MHM education and advocacy) using Rwanda’s SHE28 campaign as an example.
  • Researching, reviewing and assisting with the design of MHM content and teaching and training strategies used in Rwanda.
Skills Needed:
  • Passion for addressing global socio-economic health problems in new ways that affect girls and women
  • Knowledge of or a keen interest in learning more about menstrual hygiene management
  • Knowledge of School Health and adolescent reproductive and sexual health and rights
  • Knowledge of public health outlets and resources
  • Skill and experience in developing assessment public health tools and development of IEC materials.
  • Knowledge of participatory methods and training methods a plus.
  • Initiative and ability to jump right into projects.
  • A sense of humor!
Timeline: Approximately 3-5 hours per week, 6-month engagement

Terms: Can work remotely, though SHE is based in NYC right now so in-person meetings once a quarter and weekly meetings by Skype; unpaid internship though guaranteed fun and learning about menstrual hygiene management as a global issue. Will consider supporting internship to be used for school credit or a field study placement.

About SHE: SHE’s mission is to invest in people and ideas that are typically overlooked (and often taboo) as vehicles of social and economic change. Please visit SHE at www.sheinnovates.com for more information.

To apply: Please contact CeCe Camacho at cece@SHEinnovates.com. Please send a resume and a cover letter within the body of the email detailing interest.
